Vocational Training and Employment Centres (VTEC) connect Indigenous job seekers with employment opportunities and bring together the support services necessary to prepare individuals for long term employment. The guarantee of a job at the commencement of job-specific training is the key feature of VTECs. VTEC, championed by Minderoo Foundation’s Generation One initiative, is funded by the federal government.
Central Earthmoving is one VTEC employer leading the way to ensure Indigenous people have the opportunities and training they need to succeed within its organisation. Minderoo interviewed Central’s director Craig Patterson who explained how his company prioritises employing Indigenous Australians.
Minderoo’s Generation One initiative partners with Ebenezer Aboriginal Corporation (EAC) to deliver the EAC VTEC program in Acacia prison in WA.
