We believe that by giving

a hand up not a hand out

we can empower communities

The Minderoo Foundation was established by Andrew and Nicola Forrest in 2001 and was originally known as the Australian Children’s Trust. The Foundation’s work was based on the mandate to give a hand up, not a hand out and that ethos remains today. Since establishment the Foundation has supported over 250 initiatives across Australia and internationally in pursuit of a range of causes.

With over AU$645 million invested and committed philanthropically to date, the focus going forward has evolved and includes a partnership approach as well as the design and direct implementation of key initiatives. These include: driving change in global cancer research to encourage collaboration, ending modern slavery, creating parity for Indigenous Australians, ensuring all children in Australia reach their full potential, nurturing new talents in the arts, generating world-changing research and innovation in Western Australia and innovative community development and environmental conservation initiatives.

“It’s one thing to know about a terrible problem and not be able to fix it; it is another to know about the problem and have the means to do something about it.”
