Minderoo is proudly Australian encompassing the Minderoo Foundation (which was founded in 2001 by Andrew and Nicola Forrest) and the private business holdings of the Minderoo Group.
In May 2013, Andrew and Nicola were the first Australasian signatories to join the Giving Pledge – a commitment by some of the world's most influential individuals and families to dedicate the majority of their wealth to philanthropy. With Bill and Melinda Gates, Warren Buffet, Sir Richard Branson and Pierre and Pam Omidyar, the couple advocate, by their example, the use of wealth for the long term achievement of an independent and quality of life for the world's least fortunate.
The original aim of the Minderoo Foundation was
to help all Australians, particularly children and Indigenous Australians, to dream way beyond
what their current circumstances and expectations might allow.
This was achieved through the Australian Children's Trust and since then, the Minderoo Foundation has expanded its focus to include: GenerationOne, a national movement focused on ending Indigenous disparity in Australia through employment; the Walk Free Foundation, a global organisation focused on ending modern slavery; and Hope for Children, an international aid organisation focused on development projects in Ethiopia. To date over $270 million has been contributed by the Forrest family to charitable causes, which support those objectives.
